FASHION FRIDAY: ALDO “LIFE’S A BEACH”
Whether or not you like Aldo shoes, it’s hard to resist how fun their recent ad campaigns have been. Shot by Terry Richardson and featuring models Lily Donaldson and Sean O’Pry, “Life’s A Beach” makes us continue to long for summer as we watch two disgustingly good-looking people sit on giant lemons wedges, pretend to be sharks, and lounge on beach chairs all while sporting Aldo shoes and accessories. All of this is done with bold, bright, pops of color throughout.
We may not have the best luck with their shoes but they sure know how to make a fun video.

2. Heister Heel (Orange)
3. Voightlander Clutch

I HYPE: UP THERE
How many people really look at their surroundings? I don’t mean just looking at where you’re going or a random glance here and there…I mean, really look.
If you’re a resident of the NYC area, the city is flooded with hidden gems with street art being a prominent part of the culture. One facet of this involves a dying profession.
Up There, directed by Malcom Murray as part of Stella Artois’s “The Ritual Project” sponsored by, chronicles the dying art of hand-painted advertisements. Filmed over a three week span of time, the film follows a group of artists as they paint a 20 x 50 foot still-frame image. Giving a bit of background history into this profession, we see how in modern times, it’s still a skill passed on from generation to generation requiring many years to learn and perfect.
It’s a film worth watching and one that will both inspire as well as educate. These guys deserve an immense amount of respect for braving both the weather as well as extreme heights to give us these incredible ads.

MUSIC MONDAY: MIRACLE - “THE VISITOR”
Being called Miracle almost sounds like an oxymoron to what this synth-pop duo, comprised of Steve Moore and Daniel O’Sullivan, is really like. Their debut EP is full of haunting, eerie songs that are certainly a change from the stereotypical upbeat sounds of their peers.
With “The Visitor” serving as the first single, both the songs and video give a slight glimpse into what Miracle are all about. Although the band name may seem like it has some heavenly or religious connotation, Miracle are far from being either.
They are certainly a duo to watch this year and if you’re still not convinced, Refinery 29 posted the rest of their EP which can be listened to HERE.

FASHION FRIDAY: WWDW (WHAT WOULD DONALD WEAR)
Because this week is all about Donald Glover, today’s Fashion Friday post has appropriately been titled, “What Would Donald Wear” or WWDW for short. After surfing the interweb for past things he’s worn for various events, interviews, and on the show, the outfit above is kind of a hodgepodge of different elements seen on multiple occasions.
Although it’s exceptionally simple, it seems like an appropriate outfit selection for Sir Donald. Stylish without being overly pretentious and basics never hurt, making each piece easily mixed and matched with other wardrobe staples.
So what do we all think? Would Donald Wear this?

WE HYPE: CHILDISH GAMBINO aka Donald Glover
(video via iamdonald)
“Freaks and Geeks” Live - To download the mp3 go HERE
You can’t talk about Donald Glover these days without bringing up his musical venture as Childish Gambino. With a name derived from a Wu-Tang Clan name generator (a joke name that stuck), more and more people are recognizing Donald’s nack for creating catchy rap songs that incorporate tons of pop culture references.
As proven through”Freaks and Geeks,” it’s hard to catch all the references in one shot. Citing the poet E. E. Cummings, Eggo waffles, Gavin Rossdale (from the band Bush), and Black Swan (just to name a few) he successfully manages to intertwine all of these seemingly unrelated people and things effortlessly. The lyrics below have already been mentioned in a past Music Monday post but they are just too good to not repost.
- E.E. Cumming on her face, now that’s poetry in motion
- These girls be acting crazy when they dancing Black Swan. I ain’t f***ing at the club put your clothes back on
- Took the “G” out yo waffle, all you’ve got left if your ego
Does anyone else remember the petition to get Donald an audition for the new Spider Man movie? Well if not, in “Not Going Back” he throws in a line about it and his refusal to go back to the life he had be for. Pretty deep considering he also talks mentions a terrible rap song he wrote for Rashida Jones, and Michel Scott.
Childish Gambino certainly doesn’t hold back, even mentioning race, religion, sex, and obviously, the ladies. He’s certainly right when he calls himself a, “renaissance man with a hollywood buzz.” In a short time, he’s catapulted himself into the limelight and with the recent start of his US tour, appropriately entitled the I Am Donald tour in which Donald Glover opens for Childish Gambino (clever right?), he’ll be sure to get plenty more buzz.
If you were lucky enough to get a ticket to either of the NY dates, we envy you. If you happen to have a spare ticket or two, we’d be more than happy to take them off your hands and love you forever.
A full list of dates for the I Am Donald tour can be found HERE.
